A sus 19 años, Vittoria Blasigh siente auténtica pasión por el baloncesto. Tras formarse en la cantera del Libertas Sporting School Udine, la jugadora ha representando a la selección italiana en las diferentes categorías de formación para ayudarla a cumplir sus metas. El trabajo y las habilidades captaron el interés del SPAR Gran Canaria, que se hizo con sus servicios para disputar la temporada 2022/23 en la Liga Femenina Endesa.
En «Mate Al Aro» entrevistamos a la directora de juego para valorar su primera experiencia en España, al mismo tiempo que tratamos aspectos para conocerla mejor y comparte sus impresiones de cara a su próximo estreno en la NCAA con las Bulls de South Florida.
En primer lugar, gracias por tu tiempo. ¿Nos cuentas cómo fueron tus inicios en el deporte?
Empecé a practicar baloncesto cuando tenía 9 años, porque un día mi madre me llevó a ver un partido de baloncesto. Durante el primer y segundo tiempo, salí a la pista a tirar a canasta y enseguida me gustó. Entonces, una semana después, comencé las prácticas con el equipo más joven.
Durante los últimos años, has formado parte de la selección griega en categorías inferiores. ¿Qué significa para ti defender la elástica de tu país?
Sí, jugué con la selección juvenil italiana. Para mí siempre es un orgullo y un placer vestir esa camiseta.
¿Cuál es tu mejor recuerdo dentro de las pistas? ¿Y el peor?
Definitivamente, el mejor momento fue el año pasado cuando clasificamos para el campeonato mundial con la selección nacional. El peor momento en la cancha también fue durante la temporada pasada, cuando en Italia perdimos la final para ascender a la máxima categoría italiana.
¿Cómo te describes como jugadora?
Soy un jugadora a la que le gusta hacer jugar bien a todo el equipo, creo que eso es muy importante para una base. Me gusta mucho el lanzamiento de tres, especialmente después de un tambaleo.
En 2022 fichaste por el SPAR Gran Canaria para vivir tu primera experiencia en la competición española. ¿Qué valoración haces de la temporada realizada por el equipo?
Para mí fue una experiencia maravillosa. Tengo que dar las gracias al club por la oportunidad que me dio de jugar en la liga española. ¡Fue genial vestir la camiseta de Gran Canaria! Mi equipo me ayudó mucho, creo que hicimos una buena temporada. Tal vez podríamos haber ganado algunos partidos más, ¡pero lo intentamos!
¿Consideras que las instituciones y organismos públicos podrían haber apoyado más al club?
Sí, creo que podrían haber apoyado un poco más…
¿Cuáles son tus impresiones sobre la Liga Femenina Endesa?
Creo que es una liga muy competitiva y muy dura. Todos pueden ganar y perder, cada partido debe jugarse al 100% independientemente de la clasificación.
Próximamente darás el salto a la NCAA. ¿Cómo surgió la oportunidad de incorporarte a la University of South Florida y cuáles son tus expectativas?
Espero una liga muy física, diferente a la europea. Será una nueva aventura que estoy deseando descubrir.
Sabemos que eres amiga de Petra Holesinksa, quien tiene una amplia experiencia en la competición universitaria. ¿Le has pedido algún consejo par afrontar esta nueva etapa?
Petra ha sido como una hermana para mí este año, si he crecido es principalmente gracias a ella. Siempre ha sido de gran ayuda en todos los momentos difíciles, es una de las personas más agradables que he conocido. Le pedí algunos consejos sobre la vida en USA, ella me ayudó y aconsejó lo mejor para mi futuro.
Algunas veces, se olvidan los sacrificios que las deportistas hacen para cumplir sus metas y sueños. ¿Te apetece compartir aquellos a los que te enfrentas?
Lo más difícil para mí es organizar los estudios y el baloncesto al mismo tiempo. Particularmente este año, porque estoy en mi último año de la escuela. Pero me encanta el deporte y no me gustan las cosas fáciles.
¿Qué objetivos te marcas a nivel profesional?
Me gustaría llegar a ser un buena base en Europa, necesito mejorar mucho en el aspecto físico y en el control del equipo durante los partidos. Me gustaría ser como Sabrina Ionescu, es mi base favorita.
¿Tienes algún sueño por cumplir en el baloncesto?
Mi mayor sueño es jugar en uno de los equipos más fuertes de España.
Interview | Vittoria Blasigh: «The NCAA is a new adventure that I’m looking forward to discovering»
At 19 years old, Vittoria Blasigh feels a real passion for basketball. After training in the Libertas Sporting School Udine academy, the player has represented the Italian team to help it achieve its goals in the different training categories. The work and skills captured the interest of SPAR Gran Canaria, which took over their services to play the 2022/23 season in the Liga Femenina Endesa.
In «Mate Al Aro» we interview the point guard to assess her first experience in Spain, at the same time that we discuss aspects to get to know her better and share her impressions for her upcoming NCAA debut with the South Florida Bulls.
First of all, thanks for your time. Can you tell us about your beginnings in sport?
I started playing basketball when I was 9 years old, because one day my mom took me to watch a basketball game. During the first and second half I went to the court to shoot at the basket and I liked it right away. So then one week later i started the practices with the younger team.
During the last years you have been part of the Greek national team in lower categories. What does it mean to you to defend the elastic of your country?
Yes, I played with the Italian youth national team. For me, it is always a pride and a pleasure to wear that jersey.
What is your best memory on the court? And the worst?
The best moment was definitely last year when we qualified for the world championship with the national team. Worst moment on the court was last season in italy when we lost the final to go up to the top Italian category.
How do you describe yourself as a player?
I am a player who likes to make the whole team play well, I think that is very important for a point guard. I really like the three-point shot especially after a stagger.
In 2022 you signed for SPAR Gran Canaria to live your first experience in the Spanish competition. What assessment do you make of the season carried out by the team?
For me it was a wonderful experience, I have to say thank you to the club for the opportunity that they gave me to play in the Spanish league. It was great to wear the Gran Canaria jersey! my team helped me so much, I think we had a good season. Maybe we could have won a few more games but we tried!
Do you think that public institutions could have supported the club more?
Yes, I think a little…
What are your impressions of the Liga Femenina Endesa?
I think it’s a very competitive and very hard league. Everyone can win and everyone can lose, every game should be played play 100% regardless of the ranking.
Soon you will make the jump to the NCAA. How did the opportunity to join the University of South Florida come about and what are your expectations?
I expect a very physical league, different from Europe. It will be a new adventure that I look forward to discovering
We know that you are friends with Petra Holesinksa, who has extensive experience in this competition. Have you asked her for any advice to face this new stage?
Petra has been like a sister for me this year, if I have grown it is mainly because of her. She has always been helpful in all times of difficulty, she is one of the nicest people I have ever met. I asked her for some advice about life in the USA and she helped me and advised the best for my future.
Sometimes the sacrifices players make to achieve their goals and dreams are forgotten. In your case, which ones have cost you the most?
The most difficult thing for me is to organize studying and basketball at the same time. Particularly this year because I am in my last year of school. But I love the sport and I don’t like easy things.
What goals do you set for yourself at a professional level?
I would like to become a good point guard in Europe , I need to improve a lot on the physical aspect and team control during the game. I would like to become like Sabrina Ionescu, she is my favorite point guard.
Do you have any dream to fulfill in basketball?
My biggest dream is to play for one of the strongest teams in Spain.
